I read an MSNBC article a while back claiming there was an eight bit music "scene" in some cities. Anyone know of such a thing?

Re: 8-bit music
Tue, December 2, 2003 - 4:14 PMNot really any cities per se, but i do know certain genres of electronic music that evolved out of the fact that the only means of prodction available to the artists at the time were cheap video game computers.
As an example, the gabber scene (hardcore techno) in the late 80's early 90's consisted of a handful of artists using ProTracker on the Amiga. And maybe some using Atari 1040STs.
Gabber was concentrated in the places like Brooklyn NYC, Rotterdam NL, and Newcastle Australia. Nasenbluten, being from the latter, is my favorite example.
As for current scenes that focus on 8-bit music, i have no idea, but would love to know! -

But yeah, the MSNBC article (I'll see if I can find it) described a club somewhere where people were listening to SID music. -

Fri, January 30, 2004 - 9:15 PMHope this isn't too off subject, but does anyone know the fate of any the HOTT boxes. They were introduce durning a an Atari convention in Anaheim(they had Mick Fleetwood playing one) and
they were music modules meant to be used with Atari 1040ST's and 030 Falcon. Has anyone come across one in their travels or good web site about them?
